Safety for Students and Protection for Staff
In response to the recent surge of sexual abuse cases in our district, our top priority must be adopting and enforcing clear policies and procedures that protect all students—especially the most vulnerable. Equally important is ensuring teachers can report suspected abuse without fear of retaliation. Too often staff stay silent because they worry about losing their jobs. We must change that so our schools provide the safety and security children and parents rightly expect.
Transparency
Parents have a right to know what their children are learning. I will ensure curriculum transparency so that all learning materials, academic activities, and instructional resources are easily accessible to parents. I support an open, honest approach that empowers parents to engage with their children’s education, ask questions, and celebrate progress. To put this into practice, I will regularly visit school sites to listen to students and teachers and stay informed about our schools’ academic, social, and emotional health.
Fiscal Responsibility
Our district is a high‑cost, low‑value system. Glendale has increased spending on many programs that deliver little benefit to the people who matter most: students. Over the past ten years GUSD spending rose by 72 percent, and now the district is proposing a November bond—Measure G—asking voters to approve $690 million to fund a portion of roughly $2 billion in facility upgrades. This would raise property taxes for Glendale residents. Before asking taxpayers for more, the district should clearly account for how it has used the state and local revenues it already receives. GUSD has produced abysmal results in reading and math scores. The flagship school of this district, Glendale High School, produced 11th graders who scored below the state average in Math at 42%, and English proficiency is only modestly above average at 60% . If I am elected to the GUSD board, I WILL be accountable to the public for every penny that we spend.
