About Janet Balekian
As a teacher, administrator, and parent, I am committed to strengthening public education through a strong partnership with families, educators, and our community.
I have lived in Glendale for 47 years. My family went through Glendale schools and now my daughter is part of that same tradition. Like many families who come here to raise their children and take advantage of our strong schools, I see every day how much these schools matter, not just for academics, but as places where kids feel safe, supported, and part of a community. The relationships our children build and the environment we create shape who they become. Families need to be able to trust that our schools will keep students safe and help them thrive.
Rooted in Education
I have spent 25 years working in teaching, school leadership, teacher mentorship, and student services. I am passionate about creating learning environments where students can thrive, teachers feel supported, and parents are actively involved in their child’s education.
Why I’m running
I’m running because Glendale Schools has reached a breaking point. Families are being ignored, teachers are struggling with the lack of support, students are falling behind, and yet are being pushed through the system without being adequately prepared. Seeing the neglect of special education students firsthand and being removed for speaking out only confirmed how urgently change is needed. That is why I am running for the board—to be a protector for the most vulnerable in our schools, to bring safety back, and to restore the trust that has been broken. I will be the voice for the children and families who have been silenced and ensure every student is seen, supported, and given the education they deserve.
I look forward to working with all of you to protect our students, support our educators, and make Glendale Schools the best they can be.
